Quinn's Cub Scout Days are Over...

We had one of those milestone events this past weekend. Quinn and I attended his last Blue and Gold Banquet with his Cub-Scout Pack. For those that don’t know, the Blue and Gold banquet is held each year as a Crossing Over ceremony for the second year Webelos going into Boy Scouting. Quinn and his den-mates are now Boy Scouts. Quinn has been working 5 years for this. He started in first grade as a Tiger scout and has stuck with it through Wolf, Bear and 2 years of Webelos. During his time in Cub’s he has camped many times. We have gone to such places as French Creek, Dutch Wonderland and the wonderful Cub and Boy Scout camps in the area. We have attended two summer camp weekends and had a blast at each. Quinn and his friends have hiked in many places and have attended a number of the Valley Forge Encampments.
Quinn’s den has gone to museums, sporting events, and other things for fun. They have worked on many service projects such as food drives, township clean-up days and helping out where ever they can. We were even asked to help out as volunteers for the Zoo’s Halloween days. We helped the smaller kids make crafts.
It was a great
experience for Quinn and the other boys. As a parent it made me proud to watch him grow up and mature as a leader in the Cub Scout Pack. The last year it was great watching Quinn and his friends, now being the older boys, helping the younger guys out. This has been a very positive experience for all of us.
Quinn’s next challenge is to get involved with the Boy Scout Troop. His first meeting is this Tuesday and should be fun. Our first camp-out is coming up in two weeks. Very quick.
